Koh Lan, Pattaya – Anyone looking for a sea destination with sparkling water, beautiful beach, soft white sandy, photogenic place, interesting café & restaurant, a variety of activity near Bangkok. Of course, the definite answer would be Koh Lan because the place offers everything, the access is very easy to visit. Let’s prepare and get together with this travel review!
How to Get to Koh Lan from Bangkok by Public Transport
The popular way to visit Koh Lan from Bangkok by public transport, I recommend taking a van or a tour bus. Both, you can get on at Ekkamai Transport Center or Mo Chit Bus Terminal. As for the van at Mo Chit (the formal station) has moved to the new Chatuchak Van Station (Opposite Mo Chit Bus Terminal), you have to get it from there. However, I’d like to give information about the only one I actually used the service.
⚡️🚌 On the trip to Koh Lan during my time, I chose to get on a van at the new Chatuchak Van Station with a price of 150 baht/person, which takes about 3 hours directly to Bali Hai Pier. On the returning trip, I advise you to walk behind the parking lot at Bali Hai Pier, there will be a tour bus queue + van to Mo Chit. I boarded there and return to Bangkok at the same price of 150 baht/person, then, get off at BTS Mo Chit. It’s quite convenient!
How to Cross the Coast from Pattaya <-> Koh Lan
To cross from Bali Hai Pier, Pattaya to Koh Lan, there will be two types of boats, a riverboat, and a speedboat that differ in price and speed.
1. Riverboat – 30 baht , duration 40 mins
The riverboat is large and is popularized among visitors who wish to across the coast from Pattaya to Koh Lan since the price is inexpensive, only 30 baht/person. But the duration while riding is quite long, it takes about 30-40 mins. There are two routes you can choose: Bali Hai Cape (Pattaya) <-> Na Ban Pier , and Bali Hai Cape (Pattaya) <-> Tawaen Beach
2. Speedboat – 150 baht/person , duration 15 mins
For those who are in a hurry or cannot catch a riverboat in time and is lazy to wait, a speedboat is an answer. You can travel from Bali Hai Pier to Koh Lan in just 15 mins. If you’re afraid or dislike the boat jumping or rocking violently along the waves. I suggest taking a riverboat instead because a speedboat drives very fast, if there is a strong wave on any day, I almost puke seriously!

Koh Lan Tour
If you’re looking for a convenient vacation in Koh Lan with a tour guide traveling with you throughout the trip, including the whole package of activities, booking a Pattaya tour is a good idea since the price includes a round-trip speedboat, buffet meals, and various diving activities. You can take a look and pick the remarkable one below.
The information is packed! Let’s get to Koh Lan together right now!
Tawaen Beach is claimed to be the most popular beach in Koh Lan. The beach itself is picturesque, elongate and wide, lining with restaurants, hotels, bars, convenient stores, and a stopover pier that can be boated directly from Bali Hai Cape, Pattaya, the seawater is crystal clear. With all the above description, it’s no surprise why Tawaen Beach is actively popular. If you plan to stay overnight around this area, I can say you’re truly satisfied because there provides everything!
Many tourists may not notice, next to Tawaen Beach, there is the small Sangwan Beach hidden abreast. You can walk past directly through the Tawaen pier. Before entering Sangwan Beach, there will be a viewpoint constructed in form of a white wooden bridge. People like to take a photograph there till it has become the location signature.
Sangwan Beach , a small seaside with a few bars and restaurants you can chill out, view a seascape, and escape the chaos from Tawaen Beach. If you want to change the mood, stop by here is a suggestion.
Tien Beach is my favorite among other beaches in Koh Lan. With spacious, tranquility, not too crowded, the seawater is transparently made it becoming the no.1 in my perspective. Overall is a full 10 pts without deduction at all.
When arriving at Tien Beach, you have to park a motorcycle on the boardwalk far left. After that, walk along the bridge, then, traverse the coast to Tien Beach. Anyone who carries a mat or cloth can select a good spot to lie down and relax. If you’re empty-handed, you can rent a mat with locals around the area for 50 baht and stay all day long. For those who want to sleep in this beach area, as far as I know, there is one great hotel called Tien Nara.
Tien Nara / Tien Beach
Wish to have more styling selfies with Tien Beach atmosphere? You can order a drink and sit at the bar in Tien Nara hotel, the price is not high at all, the coconut smoothie is only 50 baht per cup. But if you just want to lie down comfortably, you can rent a deck chair, the charge is 50 baht per person, you can stay all day without restriction.
To make pictures look a hundred times more stylish, at Tien Nara, there is a transparent kayak rental service that costs 400-500 baht/hour, also a SUP board at 300-400 baht/hour. Tien Beach manages a lot of activities that water sports lover might enjoy it. And if you have luck, you may see geese walking around the seaside. Unfortunately, I didn’t find one.
Samae Beach is another worth visiting location, the seashore is about 800 meters long rowing with restaurants and a rental deck chair to sit, eat, and sip something cool. Those of you who are super active and can’t stay still, I recommend strolling around because both sides of the shore have interesting spots. For instance, on the far right is a stingray-shaped aquarium (but closed on that day). I didn’t walk that way but I heard people said, there is a pavilion at the aquarium where you can see the amazing seascape of Samae Beach.
On the left side, there is a line of brown rocks stretching out to the mountain where stands a bridge leading to another minor beach. I walked to this site and I appreciated it a lot! The view is great, also, the rocks there are different from any other beach in Koh Lan I'd ever seen. I felt so refreshing but it was a little regretful that I didn’t walk to the bridge and go all the way to the other end. I just realized my miss chance later when I saw my friend’s photo on Instagram. There will be a sandy seaboard with small rocks, when taking a picture, the outcome is indeed charming! If you have free time, keep exploring, you may find a hidden gem.
Ta-Yai Beach , another famous destination in Koh Lan, the approaching here is easy and convenient, you can ride a motorbike to stopover. Even though the beach is small but swimming in the sea is still pleasurable. Moreover, on the left side, there is also a rock zone where you can get a chic image.
In my POV, I think Ta-Yai Beach is not a competitor to the other beaches, the reason might be when I was traveling there, there was no sun at all which made the atmosphere and entire elements looked a little dull. For me, taking sea pictures, it’d be better if the water is fresh blue and the sky is sunny. Lol
A Secret Beach (Next to Ta-Yai Beach)
At Ta-Yai Beach, there is an unnamed secret beach hidden on the right side, there will be a direct pathway that you have to pass through a cactus garden to reach this attraction. If you walk and see a cactus. Congrats! You’re on the right way!
This Secret Beach (next to Ta-Yai Beach) is unexpectedly pretty, suitable for taking a landscape photo. But may not be preferable for swimming because the seaside is full of rocks, and there is not much space to do any activities. // Visiting Ta-Yai beach, please drop by here as well, walk about 20-30 meters. It’s very close!
Khao Phra Yai Viewpoint
The first viewpoint we’ll get to is the Khao Phra Yai viewpoint . From this spot, you can see the entire seascape of Tawaen Beach, as well as, it’s the place where the great Luang Por Thuat is enshrined that you can come to worship. Any of you who wants to go higher can continue riding a motorcycle to San Lan Monastery which held the statue of Goddess Guanyin. If you want to climb up to the mountain peak, you can walk 200 more steps (can’t ride through) to get to the pagoda above as well.
I’d like to raise the award for this location because it’s the best Koh Lan viewpoint in my opinion. Windmill Viewpoint is constructed with a good layout design and platform that suitable for sightseeing. While you stroll along and observe the view around Koh Lan, including the sight of Nuan Beach, Tawaen Beach, dozens of windmills stood side by side. You can see tall buildings lined up on the Pattaya side as well. Standing at this point, I just realized how Pattaya is developed so far, with these tall buildings, it looks very prosperous.
For people who fascinate by visiting the windmill viewpoint, the recommended time is from 3 pm onwards. Since the place is an open area without any rooftops, I’m sure the sun will be scorching and you’ll feel very hot. As for the route driving up to the viewpoint, let’s say it’s kinda brutal. I suggest a skilled motorcyclist be the one who rides because the road is quite steep with a lot of bends.
Let’s get started and find something to eat! The first Koh Lan eatery I want to make a suggestion is the Sea Space restaurant and café, where located by the sea, the place is given a relaxation vibe, able to overlook the Pattaya skyline. There also is the small space of seashore you can go down for a walk and take some cool photos.
During my visit, I ordered three dishes; Stir-fried squid with salted egg yolk (195 baht), stir-fried basil with grilled pork neck (180 baht), and fired scallop with garlic and pepper (240 baht). The food taste is standard but the portion size of each serving is a little too small compared to the price we have to pay.
As for the restaurant atmosphere while eating here, I give a full 10/10 score since it provides a wonderful scenic, plus, the front beach of the restaurant sites a swing for customers to come-sit and take a picture, it’s one of the coolest points about Sea Space. If you walk a little more to the right side, there is a beautiful rocky landscape. Just standing among these rocks, you’ll get a cool selfie for sure. Lol
Maharak Café is another café and restaurant with a similar vibe to Sea Space where you can sit and chill out next to the sea. The only difference is, at Maharak Café has no beach for customers to walk, because the shop terrace was built to extend over the sea. In addition, the shop is not far from the Koh Lan pier, you can walk straight away.
The Maharak Café food in my opinion is considered fair with a standard level. The dishes I ordered were Spaghetti with dried chili and shrimp (189 baht), stir-fried prawn with black pepper (219 baht), and fried chicken wing with salt (120 baht)
If you’re searching for a restaurant with a distinctive seaside atmosphere where you can look across the Pattaya city view, sitting and dining here at Maharak Café is also a great idea!
Fat Submarine Cafe and Restaurant
The real café hopper must pay attention to this because the next eatery I’d like to recommend is really good in terms of the delicious taste, atmosphere, design, and decoration. Fat Submarine Cafe and Restaurant is located by the sea at Koh Lan market. the shop is applied with a tropical style that gives you a true vibe of an island beach vacation. You can leisurely sit and watch the waves going back and forth since the dining area is quite close to the sea.
My order menus were Matcha Espresso (105 baht) ), the drink is served with a rich milk matcha green tea topped with a shot of coffee. The taste is so…so good and aromatic. The other menu was Affrogato (100 baht) which is also excellent, a coffee ice cream mixed with an espresso shot is the perfect match! These refreshments allow you to add sweetness to your body and gain more energy to continue traveling.
For me, Fat Submarine Cafe and Restaurant is one of the best cafés in Koh Lan. Plus, the café location is close to the pier and the market which makes you easily and conveniently stopping by for lifeblood.
The last Koh Lan café, let's me present you the modern-clean design, Indigo Cafe, that is decorated in white in contrasting with various colorful props from surfboards (one of them is a board screening with the shop jellyfish logo laid next to the sea), bean bags, rubber rings, and the fresh blue seawater of Koh Lan. The overall image makes this place another café many tourists like to visit because there provides a lot of photo props and setting up.
The drinks I ordered are both Signature Drinks; Passion Fruit Coffee (145 baht) ), a coffee mixed with passion fruit juice that is refreshing and can cool down the heat very well. Apart from the first menu, the other is a Butterfly Pea Tea Latte (135 baht), this drink uses mixed ingredients of milk and butterfly pea tea, I personally think it’s a little too sweet (Even though I told the staff to lessen the sweetness), moreover, the milk flavor overspreads and covers the smell of butterfly pea tea. Both sweetness and richness of milk make it a little greasy.
In conclusion, I think the strong selling point Indigo Cafe is the atmosphere because it’s next to the sea, as well as, there offers the Signature photogenic spot, the Indigo Sea Sky which is a white staircase leading up to the sky. Including the artificial sandy beach that makes you feel like sitting at the real seashore. As for the drink prices, I think it’s slightly high.
Koh Lan Hotel
Samanta By The Sea
Samanta By The Sea was one of the few remaining Koh Lan hotels that had rooms available. Because my Koh Lan trip was a quick set-up trip, I booked the hotel in a very hurry, let’s see, it was only two days before going on a vacation. So, the famous and outstanding accommodations were already fully booked. Until I found Samanta By The Sea via Booking.com which received a 9.1/10 review score. The score was very high, plus, the room price is inexpensive.
I chose a large room for 4 guests (but I actually went there only 2 people, haha), because of the affordable price, 1,500 baht per night, and also got a very large room, I appreciated it so much. The facilities are in a complete service, TV with Netflix, refrigerator, hairdryer, separate bathroom, shower room, and toilet. The bed is comfy which made me a good night’s sleep, plus, there is a light breakfast served to satisfy your stomach in the morning.
Apart from great and inexpensive rooms, the other reason why this accommodation review score is so high on the OTA website, it’s because of the host who is hospitable and always welcoming guests with a smile. It was no surprise for me because when I arrived there, the host came to welcome and pick me up at the pier, recommended Koh Lan attractions to visit, also, offered a motorcycle rental at the price of 250 baht/day including petrol. It’s so lovely!
This is all of my Koh Lan travel reviews for 3 days and 2 nights.
